When you gyrate the cap, it won’t sling out for that reason or get pushed down through the grommet into the crucible \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e(lose ability to gyrate) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGlassblowers put those two notches in - in order to prevent that. The one downside to this style cap is that it makes it necessary to take the entire flux cap grommet off of the crucible to clear your piece.
